Vortex flowmeters, also know as vortex shedding flowmeters or oscillatory flowmeters are based on the “ Karmen Vortex street” principle, measure the vibrations of the downstream vortexes caused by the barrier placed in a moving stream. The vibrating frequency of vortex shedding can then be related to the velocity of flow.
Advantages as follows:
1. Simple body construction for easy installation and free maintenance, no need of pressure pipe and 3-valve manifold, reduced possibility of process fluid leakage, blockage and freeze.
2. Vortex flowmeters are the ideal flowmeter in the measurement of gas, liquid, steam and mix/corrosive fluid.
3. High measurement accuracy( ±1%~±2%).
4. Suitable for total quantity
measurement, no zero adjustment.
5. In a specific range of Reynolds numbers, the output pluses are unaffected by the fluid, checking in one typical medium suitable to all kinds of others.
limitations and drawbacks:
1. Limited to low Reynolds numbers measurement(Re≥2×104), means limited to high viscosity, low flow velocity and small size.
2. Requirement for straight run(more than 20D)or set a rectifier.
3.
Sensitive to mechanical vibration, not good at high power vibration place.
4. Low resolution, the bigger size the lower resolution, just can measure below DN300.
Cone shape flow sensor is a differential pressure type flow measurement device based on
Bernoulli principle. Compared to Vortex flowmeter, advantages as follows:
1.Low requirement for straight run, cone body is a rectifier, can be installed in the place without straight run.
2. Wide range of pipe diameter can be more than 15mm~3000mm.
3. Pipe Vibration just influence little on measuring accuracy
4. Meet lower flow velocity by adjusting ß ratio range.
5. Meet high pressure grade placement(ANSI2500/PN42MPa).
Of course, cone shape flow sensor is just a primary measurement element, should match differential pressure transmitter signal and combine with pressure and temperature transmitters to collect signal, so it costs a little higher than Vortex flowmeter.
